Cabinets Up, Floors and Tree Down

It's been a while since I've updated. Although I don't have much news on the contractor front, we've accomplished quite a bit on our own. We've been going round and round with the contractors on the tile issue. I don't think they've shown up in about 4 weeks, but I think we've come to an agreement so that we can move forward. We'll use their subcontractor (with referrals and pre-work meetings) and they'll give us money back. At this point I think that's the best solution. And maybe we'll have bathrooms by the end of January.

We did make a big dent in the kitchen however! We installed all the cabinets and had the counters installed last week. I'm really happy how it turned out. We'll have an island (the white cabinets) but we can't install that until the floors are refinished. And we can't install the fridge until the floors are done either. The stove is on hold until the workers fix the gas hook up... but we have cabinets!

We also installed the flooring in the laundry area. This flooring is going to have a lot of history. This is the flooring that W salvaged from the 2nd floor back in October. We've moved this wood about 10 times since then. And I've cleaned every board at least once. Some of our friends came to help us install most of it. The picture doesn't do it justice, but it'll look nice once it's refinished. Most of my body is aching tonight because of this soon-to-be beautiful floor. It'll be worth it, and it earns us the restoring badge of honor.

We also did some exterior work this weekend with the help of my sister and brother-in-law. This was an exciting job since the dead tree we needed to take out was right on the street corner, so we ran the risk of the tree falling into the street. To avoid this, we tied the tree to W's truck, which turned out to be really good foresight. As L was cutting the second notch in the tree, the chainsaw fell apart. It all worked out fine, but it was a tense few minutes as L reassembled the saw. But the tree came down perfectly in our front lawn.

Our last victory of the weekend was getting cable wired to the house! So it'll be much easier to get connected from here out. Cable doesn't equal a TV yet- that's still in storage and we don't have any where to relax and watch it. But hopefully that'll come soon enough. The idea of a sofa sounds like bliss tonight.
